Lenovo Group Limited

Lenovo Group Headquarters

The Lenovo group has released some amazing laptops over the years. The Ideapad Flex 5 follows a similar trajectory and comes packed with a wide range of high quality features, making it perfect for everyday use. Promoting a convertible natured laptop which comes in two size variants; 14″ and 15.6″, this gives you room to select the best one for your requirements. In addition, it features a powerful processor and display to give you a seamless and immersive experience.

IdeaPad Flex Review of Features

Let’s delve into some of the features of the laptop:

Design

Ideapad Flex 5 laptop has a sleek and modern design, with two sizes and weights around 1.5 kgs, this is very easy to carry around. The main body is made of plastic, however for the lid, you can select the material to be either plastic or aluminum. Furthermore, it is easy to open with one hand and offers comfortable resistance, allowing the screen stays in a clamshell position. I have found the hinge is very sturdy so converting this laptop into a tablet is very easy. On the top middle of the screen, there is a webcam with a privacy shutter.

Performance

Featuring a dual core, Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD, the laptop is fast and delivers great performance. Perfect for day to day use, however, if you want to run heavy software and applications, there may be some slowness. The laptop also has a 128GB SSD, which can run out quickly.

Ports

This ideapad contains several ports for your convenience. On the left side there is an HDMI port, power connector, USB-C port and a headphone jack. In other words, charging the laptop is a breeze with this USB-C port. Similarly on the right, there are two USB-A ports and a card reader that works with plus MMC, SDXC, SDHC and SD cards.

S Mode

Windows 10 comes in S mode on the model. S mode is claimed to improve security and performance, which can work well for business or school. However, the restriction of only downloading applications from the Microsoft Store may be a problem. Any software not available on the official store cannot be downloaded.

Display

Ideapad Flex 5 has a full HD IPS touch screen display with 1920×1080 resolution. It has a pixel density of 157 ppi and delivers vivid and crisp pictures, with a viewing angle of around 45 degrees. In addition, the display rests at 250 nits of brightness, which could be better. All that I mean is that, in a well-lit room, the screen has to be set to the maximum brightness level to be used comfortably.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard is backlit and comfortable to use with adequately spaced keys, however there is a ‘clicky’ feedback to typing. So if that is not necessarily something you enjoy, it may cause some distraction. Also, on the keyboard, the Up and Down arrow keys are a little smaller, however still usable.

This deluxe touchpad is large, however, in terms of responsiveness, it might not be the best. The smooth surface has variable input levels, which can get annoying. One of the key features is a fingerprint reader that works very well.

Battery life

Twelve hours of battery life based on continuous video playback within this 52.2Wh battery is a nice feature. Given that, my assessment is that the battery life is good and beats some of its market alternatives.

IdeaPad Flex Review of Pricing

The Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 offers great features in a compact laptop. It is relatively affordable, compared to other high-end devices as you can purchase the laptop for as low as $500. Given the specs, you will not find a laptop at this price point, therefore, the Ideapad Flex 5 is a great value of money.

Final Verdict for the Lenovo Ideapad

Overall, Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 is a great laptop that you can get at a very low price. It comes with an array of high quality features and is perfect for every day use. Additionally, the body is durable and the keyboard is comfortable to use. There is an optional pen you can get to make full use of the tablet mode. In my opinion, having low brightness levels may be the only major flaw. On the other hand, if you are looking for a reliable laptop for everyday use, Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 is definitely a good option.
